I signed up for an Amex card mainly for travel perks, but I was disappointed. My card wasn’t accepted at several restaurants abroad, and customer service took forever to resolve a billing issue. The rewards program looks good on paper, but if you can’t use the card everywhere, it loses value fast.
I barely break even on the credits I actually use. It's not a terrible card, but it's also not the amazing value that the YouTubers and bloggers make it out to be. I'll probably downgrade to a no fee card and use my Visa for everything else.
I had an issue once with a suspicious charge on my card. I called, they sorted it out in minutes, issued a new card, and even followed up a few days later to make sure everything was okay. That kind of care is rare these days.
